What Is The Best Humane Trap To Catch Chipmunks?

Chipmunks are really cute and adorable, but when they invade your personal space by damaging it, there’s nothing cute about them anymore. Chipmunks are capable to destroy your lawn, trees and gardens in just one day. Your vegetable garden is like heaven for every chipmunk, and don’t try to bother them because they will become aggressive. For this reason, you have to wear gloves whenever you want to catch a chipmunk because it may bite you pretty badly. As a matter of fact, chipmunks can be Lyme disease carrier if they were bitten by ticks.

I know that there’s nothing you can brag about when it comes to caging a chipmunk, but, in order to protect your crops and house, you must use some humane methods in getting rid of chipmunks.

As a matter of fact, my husband found the perfect homemade trap to get rid of chipmunks in your yard and vegetable garden. As a bonus, it’s cheaper and is as effective as any other rodent cage.

Homemade 5 Gallon Bucket Chipmunk Trap

I read an article about the 5 gallon water bucket where they were trapping chipmunks. Yes, it’s effective but the chipmunk dies. For this reason I changed a bit the topic.

You Need:

  • 5 gallon bucket
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Glue
  • Peanut butter

How To Proceed?

  • Well, it quite easy! Spread some glue on the bottom of the bucket and then apply a peanut layer over it.
  • The next step is to spread some sunflower seeds over the peanut butter. You can apply sunflower seeds on half of the bucket bottom and the other half you can smear it with peanut butter. But don’t forget: the main layer has to be glue!
  • Now, place a piece of wood on the bucket so it can be used as a ramp for chipmunks to climb on top of the bucket.

Remember: the wood piece should be long enough to create a gentle slope for the chipmunks to climb.
Tip: you can sprinkle some sunflower seeds around the bucket and your yard, creating a path through the bucket. The same way Hansel and Gretel did!

How does it works?

Well, chipmunks will climb the slope and will lean down to grab more seeds. But, they will fall into the bucket and remain stuck in there.
