Homemade Liquid Detergent and Disinfectant for Laundry and Dishes


The detergent or bleacher made of ashes is easy to prepare. You can use the ash remained in the fireplace. You must keep in mind that you can use the ashes from burning wood or paper and as stronger the wood essences is, the better qualities the bleach will have. Don’t forget to wear gloves and goggles if you have sensitive skin. Avoid skin contact during preparation.

Sift the ashes.
It has to be white and well burnt to get a high quality bleacher. In a bowl, place 5 parts of water and 1 part of ash. Cover it with a cloth and leave it for a day or two and stir occasionally. Finally, strain the mixture through cheesecloth.

You’ll get a slippery liquid when you touch it. This is a strong detergent. Put in this liquid a potato or an egg: if it floats the detergent is ready to use but if it sinks you have to add more ash. You can use it as a liquid detergent and keep it in airtight bottles.

This ash bleacher detergent is used to clean any object that needs to be sterilized but a lot of people use it to disinfect vegetables or the kitchen and bathroom. It’s also great for dishes and laundry but you have to mix it with water because it’s very strong.
